Page Turners on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 2:00 pm
For August, the Page Turners will discuss Slick Rock Creek, a novel by Henry Mitchell, a local author.
When Clara Darner retires from a career illustrating children’s books for a Chicago publisher, she buys a house sight unseen from a magazine ad and returns to her Southern Appalachian roots in the Carolina mountains. Settling into her new home, a small cabin on a mountain overlooking Slick Rock Creek, Clara becomes increasingly intrigued by the previous occupant, Martin Youngblood, who, according to the neighbors, drowned when his pickup plunged into a flood-swollen river eight years before.
Richard McKee has invited the author to join us at our meeting in the church library.
Celebrate Tryon’s 150th Anniversary
Friday and Saturday, August 30-31, 2019
The Tryon Historical Museum is planning special events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of the town of Tryon. Tryon United Methodist Church is part of that history and we are invited to participate in the festivities.
You can be part of the fun by volunteering to staff a booth on Trade Street on Saturday. We’ll be handing out bottled water and sharing information about our church that day. Please plan to spend a little time at our booth that day.
Stay tuned for more information on the events scheduled for that weekend. We’ll also let you know about times for each event as soon as that becomes available.
To sign up to volunteer at the booth, call the church office and Kathleen will put you on the list.
