A Celebration of Advent and Christmas

at

Tryon United Methodist Church

December 2    Hanging of the Greens Service—First Sunday of Advent: The Sunday of Hope. Celebrate the beginning of a new season and a new church year with this festive celebration.  We’ll decorate our worship spaces and begin the journey of Advent with song and prayer.   

         8:30 a.m.—Fellowship Hall—Praise                                Worship Service           

         11:00 a.m.—Sanctuary—Traditional        Worship Service

December 9       Zechariah’s Song of Joy--Second Sunday of Advent: The Sunday of Peace.  This season of anticipation brings us words from the father of John the Baptist as we anticipate the coming of the One who brings us hope and peace.

         8:30 a.m.—Fellowship Hall—Praise Worship Service

         11:00 a.m.—Sanctuary—Traditional Worship Service

December 12   Tryon Christmas Parade.  5:00 p.m. in downtown                                          Tryon.

December 16   Music and Stories—Third Sunday of Advent:  The Sunday                                of Joy.

8:30 a.m. Service—“What Gives Us Joy?”  A time of sharing stories about the things in this season that give us joy.  Music from Broken Bread, our Praise Band, and a light breakfast will be served. 

11:00 a.m. Service—The Christmas Story:  A Classic Carol Celebration.  Music written and arranged by Tom Fettke and Thomas Grassi will be offered by our Chancel Choir.

December 21    Service of Darkness and Light The winter solstice, also known as midwinter, marks the day of the year with the shortest period of daylight and the longest night

 

of the year.  We offer this service to anyone who needs a time of contemplative prayer and soothing words, a respite from the busyness of the season, or perhaps a quiet time and place to remember those who are no longer with us during the holidays.  

         5:30 p.m.—6:15 p.m.—Sanctuary

December 23     Mary’s Song of Joy—Fourth Sunday of Advent:  The Sunday of Love.           

Hear the beautiful and inspiring words of The Magnificat, the song and prayer that Mary gives as her answer to God’s call that she be the       mother of His Son. 

         8:30 a.m.—Fellowship Hall—Praise Worship Service

         11:00 a.m.—Sanctuary—Traditional Worship Service

December 24     Christmas Eve—A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. This rich and beautiful service was first offered in 1918 at the Chapel of King’s College in Cambridge, England.  A thoughtful and joyful time of celebration of the birth of Jesus and a treasured tradition of worship in our church.  Holy communion will be celebrated. 

         4:00 p.m.—Sanctuary

December 25     Christmas Day—Christmas at White Oak.  Join us for our 4th Annual Christmas event at White Oak Manor.  We will share gifts and merry moments with the residents and staff. 

         1:00 p.m.—2:30 p.m. at White Oak Manor, 70 Oak          St., Tryon, NC.

December 30                Christmastide—First Sunday after Christmas Day.  The Twelve Days of Christmas is a short season but one with great meaning and the time when we continue to celebrate the birth of Jesus our Savior. 

         8:30 a.m.—Fellowship Hall—Praise Worship Service

         11:00 a.m.—Sanctuary—Traditional Worship Service
