There will be times, especially (but not exclusively) during the months of December - March, when we will be dealing with inclement weather. During those times we will need to assess whether we will need to cancel worship services and other events at Tryon United Methodist Church (TUMC). While we would prefer not to cancel services, we will make the decision to do so out of the primary concern for the safety of everyone in our congregation. Should this become necessary, here’s what you need to know:

Sunday Morning Worship Services

Check the TUMC website at www.tryonumc.org or the TUMC Facebook Page. Any changes to our schedule will be posted on both of those sites.

Check the following local television stations which will scroll closings and cancellations at the bottom of the screen and they will post them on their websites:

WYFF Channel 4 - www.wyff4.com

WSPA Channel 7 - www.wspa.com

FOX Carolina Channel 21 - www.foxcarolina.com

WLOS Channel 13 ABC - www.wlos.com

When possible, a blast email from the church will be sent out by either Pastor Lynnette Sills or by Administrative Assistant, Savanna Cashion.

PLEASE MAKE SURE WE HAVE YOUR CORRECT EMAIL ADDRESS IF YOU WANT TO BE ON THAT LIST.

When possible, a message will be left on the church answering machine that will let you know. The church phone number is 828-859-9218. 

If it is difficult for you to either check the local TV stations by viewing or on their websites and/or if you do not have access to email,

PLEASE CONTACT THE CHURCH OFFICE TO BE ADDED TO A PHONE TREE so that you will be alerted to any cancellations by the church.

A DECISION WILL BE MADE BY A LEADERSHIP TEAM consisting of staff members and representatives from the Worship Committee NO LATER THAN 7:00 A.M. ON SUNDAY MORNING. Be advised that in the event that this decision can be made early, it will be and we will make the appropriate notifications at that time. Any decision regarding a cancellation will stay on the TUMC website and Facebook page as long as necessary. The television stations have their own policies regarding the length of time they keep announcements on their scrolls, but typically they will run until at least 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.

During the Week

If Polk County Schools are closed, church activities for that particular day will also be cancelled.

The office may be open, depending on the severity of the situation, but that will be left to the discretion of the pastor and the church administrative assistant.
